About the ideal weight formulas
The four formulas each take a different approach. Hamwi (1964) uses a base weight adjusted per inch above 5 feet. Devine (1974) was originally developed for drug dosing. Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983) are later refinements. None is definitively "correct" — the average range gives a reasonable target. Frame size adjusts the result by ±10%.
